SanRemo has become a familiar name thanks to the cycling classis Milan - San Remo, the since
1951 held Song Contest of San Remo and the casino.
The city has a rich cultural life and has amongst other its own symphony orchestra.
San Remo has many stately buildings and villas. The Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel, name giver to
the Nobel Price, spent the last years of his life here. Villa Nobel and the surrounding garden are
open to the public.
The old part of the town is known as "la pigna", the pine apple, because of the way the houses
seem to be built on top of each other.
For those who like to shop San Remo is a shopper's paradise with both large stores and small
boutiques.
