Ospedaletti
Placed in a natural amphitheatre between Capo Nero and Capo Sant’Ampelio, five kilometres from the centre of Sanremo is Ospedaletti. The town protected by the hills does not suffer north winds and because of its tranquility it is considered an oasis of peace and of uncommon beauty. Its position, the mildness of its climate, as well as a luxuriant sub tropical vegetation make Ospedaletti the indisputable gem of the Riviera dei Fiori.
The official date that marks the beginning of gainful tourism for Ospedaletti is 1860, when Doctor Kerel, doctor to the court of the tzars, chose it as a place of cure for tzarina Maria Alessandrovna. He said it was because its climate “ knows no winter”; its fortune was consolidated with the realisation of the long wide promenade, Corso Regina Margherita.
The historical nucleus groups itself mostly on the sea front while the new town is situated on the elegant boulevard in a natural environment rich with palm trees, eucalyptus and mimosa trees as well as flowered gardens.
